Construction quote vs proposal: what's the difference?
Quotes, estimates, and proposals are not the same thing. Mixing them up can cost you the job — or leave you on the hook for unpaid work.
Quote vs estimate vs proposal
A quote is a binding price. An estimate is an educated guess. A proposal is the full document — scope, terms, and price — that the client signs to start the work.
When to use each
Use an estimate when you don't yet have full scope. Use a quote for tightly defined work like 'replace 12 windows.' Use a proposal for anything that ties to a contract, deposit, or multi-week project.
